September is “Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month”, and TEAM KRISTEN is taking on the Step Up Challenge. Led by big-sister Elsa, TEAM KRISTEN will endeavour to hike to the top of 5 of the Glasshouse Mountain peaks in one day (Sunday 27th September)! Elsa is also challenging her team to bust out some Irish jigging on each 5 summits.
Please show your support for TEAM KRISTEN by sharing and donating so that we may continue to raise awareness and funds for much needed research.
As we set out on this challenge, we’d also like to challenge you to please support us:
Could you sponsor us $10 per peak? or even more epic- $50 per peak?
All funds raised through TEAM KRISTEN will go to Kristen’s Living Legacy which Kristen created shortly before she passed in December 2019. Kristen knew first hand the importance of research so that women can live longer lives. Currently only 15% of women with low-grade serous ovarian cancer will survive the disease and there is no early detection or screening test for ovarian cancer.
“The Step-Up challenge allows you to choose your own challenge, so as someone who has not done much hiking, I wanted to choose something that would challenge myself physically. These mountains are an iconic part of Queensland and I know the beautiful views from the summits will be worth it!
From the age of 5 I learnt and competed in Irish Dancing and Kristen was always there to support me. It has been years since I danced, so this will be an added physical challenge but will also bring a lot of fun and laughs to the adventure. I’m looking forward to bringing people together to form this team, and just doing something different and out of our comfort zones to raise awareness and funds! Kristen would definitely be having a good chuckle right now.”– Elsa
Kristen’s fearless spirit, thirst for adventure and dedication to helping others will always inspire.
The Glasshouse Mountains are an iconic cluster of mountains located on the Sunshine Coast hinterland of Queensland, about an hour’s drive north of Brisbane and are actually the remnants of volcanic activity that occurred about 25-27 million years ago. The mountains we will hike are Ngungun; Tiberowuccum; Coochin; Beerburrum; and Wild Horse (not necessarily in that order).
Did you know that 4 Australians are diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer each day and that 3 Australians die of ovarian cancer every day?
Please help me help them by giving whatever you can using the ‘donate’ button. The more people that know about Step Up for Ovarian Cancer, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family.
Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means so much that we are able to keep Kristen’s spirit alive and carry on her selfless efforts to improve outcomes for women with Ovarian Cancer!
