Janet Peatfield of Prestwich, Manchester, UK, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2019 at the age of 67.
Her GP referred her for tests after her weight loss efforts succeeded everywhere but her abdominal area.
“People need to know not to ignore symptoms which seem vague and innocuous,” she said. “We need to be vigilant and not be fobbed off. I was lucky that my GP is also a gynaecologist. Her prompt actions led to my early diagnosis.”
Surgery found predominantly borderline tumours on both ovaries with low-grade serous manifesting itself on one of them. Both ovaries were removed along with her uterus, fallopian tubes and part of her omentum.
Janet is hopeful that research will lead to more and better treatments to be available for those unfortunate enough to have this cancer.
